Purpose-Driven Alliances
UN for Women – WEPs
Who is UN for Women – Women’s Empowerment Principles:
UN for Women is the United Nations organisation responsible for delivering programmes, policies, and standards that uphold women’s human rights and ensure that every woman and girl reach their full potential.
The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are business guidelines for promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, market, and community. Established by the UN Global Compact and UN Women, the WEPs are based on international labour and human rights standards and recognise that businesses have a stake in and responsibility for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
WEPs are the primary mechanism for corporate delivery of gender equality dimensions of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
UN for Women/WEPs – MKAI
MKAI aims to be a role model and enabler for other AI companies looking to empower women. Increasing the number of female AI engineers and managers will help find the right balance in the AI field and serve as a catalyst for raising awareness about the importance of incorporating human values into AI systems that are equitable and accessible to all.
In a multi-year programme and partnership with UN Women and MKAI member associations, the MKAI will implement the WEPs across three distinct workstreams:
- Equal treatment of all gender MKAI employees
- Representation of women in MKAI’s internal decision-making bodies and external engagement
- Women in MKAI Forums that encourage the promotion of best practices in the field of human intelligence in a multi-year program and partnership with UN Women
UNESCO
Who is UNESCO:
On November 16, 1945, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was founded. More than constructing classrooms in war-torn nations and publishing scientific breakthroughs are required for this specialised United Nations agency. Education, Social and Natural Science, Culture, and Communication are the means to a much loftier objective: to construct peace in the minds of women and men.
UNESCO – MKAI
We are excited to announce that MKAI.org has signed a tribute to support UNESCO in securing information for the public good of civil society.
Digital platforms are used by over three billion people worldwide and have a tremendous impact on public space, our daily interactions, and our access to information. At MKAI, appropriate regulation is of utmost importance to protect freedom of expression and access to reliable information while tackling the harms of digital platforms. Therefore, we support UNESCO’s efforts to develop guidelines for regulating platforms, which promote content moderation policies that respect human rights, transparency of platform processes and redress rights, empowerment of users, platform accountability towards proclaimed policies, and the setting up of an independent regulatory body.
To fully realise the impact of these guidelines, we call for a multi-stakeholder approach fuelled by active engagement from civil society organisations. At MKAI, we pledge to play our full role in this process and to work towards securing information as a public good. Now is the time to act, and we’re excited to be part of this vital work.
